Movement isn't optional. Neither is telling parents when it's cut.
Tell the California State Board of Education to protect physical activity minimums and be transparent with families before PE, recess, or structured movement disappears.
As budget pressures mount, something is quietly leaving California schools: physical education, recess, and structured movement. These are not extracurriculars or luxuries. For many kids, the movement they get at school is the only guaranteed physical activity in their day.
The science is not ambiguous. Regular activity improves attention, lowers anxiety, strengthens the heart, and supports healthy development in ways no classroom lesson can replace. When schools cut PE minimums or shorten recess to save money or add instructional minutes, that is not a neutral tradeoff. It is a health decision made on behalf of every child, often without telling parents it was made at all.
Parents cannot advocate for what they do not know is being cut. That is why this comes down to two things: hold the line on activity minimums, and tell families before those standards are at risk.
Add your name below and ask the Board to make these decisions openly, with parents at the table.
